MILES Program

EISBarcelona coordinates a pioneering project to improve academic results through daily sports practice and movement in the classroom

The MILES program involves schools in 6 countries and demonstrates that daily sport and movement in the classroom brings many benefits to students.

November 12-16, European International School of Barcelona (EISBarcelona) will host 32 students, professors and psychologists from five countries (Finland, Portugal, Turkey, Italy and Germany) who are participating in the European project Movement Improves Learning Experience in Schools (MILES).
MILES is a project promoted by EISBarcelona within the framework of the Erasmus + program of the European Union (EU).
It is aimed at students aged 14 to 16 and is being carried out simultaneously in five schools around the world.
Over two years, the academic program incorporates daily aerobic exercise, the introduction of short breaks for students to move around the classroom(brain breaks) and the inclusion of sports activities during playground time.
The initiative arose from EISBarcelona’s experience of more than 4 years with the PE4Life project, which is based on the same premise: daily sports and movement while students are in class bring benefits that result in better academic performance, better health and the incorporation of healthy habits.
With PE4Life, 3rd and 4th ESO students start the day with aerobic exercise and, once in the classroom, include physical movement in the school day.
As a result, academic development, learning experience, good habits and concentration in the classroom are substantially improved.
Given the excellent results of the experience, the project evolved into an international program with the support of the EU and the participation of other schools around the world.

Learning in the 21st century

Talks for parents This cycle aims to explain in a clear and accessible way how children and adolescents learn in the classroom.
From the hand of Víctor González Griera, EISB’s innovation coordinator, parents will understand, from a pedagogical perspective, what group work, study techniques and project work consist of.
In addition, the talks will deal with day-to-day issues, such as work at home after class or the criteria teachers apply to evaluate them or the strategies that can help them, both inside and outside the classroom. Group work Group work is one of the most sought-after skills in today’s world and in the world to come.
It is one of the indispensable requirements in the working world of large companies, ahead of specific knowledge.
This talk will address issues such as the difficulties that this type of work involves, how it is approached from the educational system and what evaluation systems are used both during the process and in relation to the final product.
We will also talk about the learning opportunities that occur in the classroom and at home and how we can, from home and from school, help students to acquire this fundamental competence for their professional future.
Thursday, November 15/19:30 h Study techniques There are occasions in which the result obtained after a certain time of study is not the expected one.
In these cases, generally, people choose to increase the hours of study without getting better grades.
The truth is that, on many occasions, it is not a matter of improving quantity, but of improving quality.
This talk will address study techniques based on neuroscientific studies, ways of organizing time, subjects and space.
It will also explain the mechanisms to try to adapt them to the way of being of each one, promoting a certain self-knowledge necessary for students to learn to manage themselves.
Thursday, March 14/19:30 h    Víctor González Griera Coordinator of the Educational Innovation Area of the European International School of Barcelona He obtained the extraordinary award from the University of Barcelona and was a finalist for the National Academic Excellence Award for his teaching studies concluded with honors and an average of 9.9.
She is currently studying pedagogy.
His studies in other fields, being also a musician, dubbing actor and having studied at ESCAC screenwriting and film directing, complement his training.
His projects based on gamification, cooperative and collaborative work and educational transmedia narrative, have been published in several countries.

Cultural Exchanges and Travel Program EIS

This week, EIS students will visit Cardiff, Lorient, Bordeaux, York, Amsterdam, Nantes, Lyon, Geneva, Cambridge, London and Alghero.

Exchanges and cultural trips offer multiple benefits for students eager to embark on an international adventure.

Language acquisition is achieved through immersion.
This encourages the development of analytical and problem-solving skills, and fosters learning from an international approach that offers students different points of view that help them understand and accept different cultures.
This is especially useful for students taking the IGCSE exams, as it contributes to their training in Global Citizenship.

It also accentuates the development of personal competencies that favor greater maturity, confidence and self-esteem in the students.
After the exchange, they feel satisfied with themselves and this feeling leads, in turn, to the development of critical thinking that enables them to make decisions and strive for new goals.
The increased pressure to communicate and relate to other people generates group awareness and develops personal sensitivity towards others.

We hope you will learn a lot and we are confident that you will be excellent ambassadors for our school and our country!
