IBDP Curricular model

The IBDP is structured to provide students with a well-rounded education that fosters critical thinking, global awareness, and a deep understanding of various subjects.

The IB Programme is renowned worldwide for its rigorous curriculum, fostering international-mindedness and promoting inquiry-based learning.

EISB IBDP Offer

Made up of the three required components, obligatory for all students. The DP core aims to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.

Students choose 1 course subject from the following subject groups: 3 subjects have to be done at SL (standard level) and the other 3 at HL (higher level).

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

CAS engages students in a variety of activities that complement their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme. The CAS framework is divided into three strands: Creativity, Activity, and Service.

  • Creativity

    nurtures student participation in the arts and cultivates innovative thinking. This may encompass activities like music, art, drama, and other avenues of creative expression, providing students with the opportunity to discover and refine their artistic abilities.

  • Activity

    focuses on promoting a healthy lifestyle through exercise. It emphasises the importance of physical well-being and can involve sports, fitness routines, and other challenges which encourage students to stay active and healthy.

  • Services

    highlights community engagement, providing students with opportunities to learn and grow through service projects. This strand connects students to their communities, fostering empathy and social responsibility while offering invaluable experiences of both academic and personal significance.

Together, these three strands of CAS significantly contribute to students’ personal and interpersonal development. Through experiential learning they enable students to embark on journeys of self-discovery, enhancing their understanding of themselves and the world around them, and fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

CAS is assessed based on the completion of a portfolio that documents the student’s experiences and reflections in relation to their activities in each of the three strands. Students are expected to engage in CAS activities regularly over a period of 18 months, with a recommended minimum of 150 hours in total.

This portfolio should demonstrate evidence of achieving the seven CAS learning goals, which include:

  • identifying personal strengths and developing areas for growth,
  • undertaking new challenges, planning and initiating activities,
  • working collaboratively with others,
  • showing perseverance and commitment,
  • engaging in issues of global importance,
  • considering the ethical implications of actions.

The CAS coordinator and supervisors monitor progress, provide feedback, and ensure that students meet the requirements for successful completion of the CAS program. It is mandatory for any student who wishes to achieve the full IB Diploma to successfully complete the CAS program.

EISB students have a wide variety of activities to choose from, including on-campus options, collaborations with local institutions, and even student-led initiatives based on their interests. Additionally, EISB offers unique CAS trip opportunities such as a visit to Kenya for the Chazon Africa Project / El Camino de Santiago
