Secondary School
Striving for Academic Excellence
Our Secondary programme aims to instill a love of learning and a commitment to hard work, fostering the development of autonomous, self-assured, lifelong learners.
At this stage, the emotional aspects and the changes that pupils experience are of great importance. Tutoring is essential at this stage, as we want our pupils to understand that their personal well-being provides a strong foundation for their academic work, and that attending to their personal needs is often a necessary precursor to effective learning. The tutor plays a vital role in guiding pupils through this process.

Our Method

In ESO, as in all our educational stages, we recognise and address the diverse learning needs of our student body with prompt and effective support. We offer specialised programmes for students with high abilities, newly arrived international students, and students with talents in sport and the arts. We also provide support and enrichment programmes for students with learning differences or specific learning needs.
Multilingual Project

During Secondary, students broaden their linguistic horizons by adding a fifth language to their studies. They can choose to study either German or Chinese, continuing their chosen language through to the second year of Baccalaureate.
Our curriculum prepares students to achieve the following official language certifications: Cambridge First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced, and Cambridge Proficiency (English); DELF A1, B1, and B2 (French); Goethe A2, B1, and B2 (German); and HSK A2 and B2 (Chinese).

EISB’s European Engagement Programme for a Global Mindset is designed to cultivate intercultural understanding and character development in Secondary students, while also enriching their language immersion experience. The programme cultivates critical thinking skills, social skills, international awareness, language proficiency, and a global perspective, empowering students to develop autonomy and a deeper understanding of the world beyond their immediate surroundings.
Annually, over 400 students benefit from exchanges and trips to countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Scotland, China, and France. Through these programmes, students participate in enriching activities including the European Youth Parliament (EYP), Model United Nations (MUN), International Maths Quests, and sporting competitions organised by the ISSA (International Schools Sports Association), enabling them to hone their inter- and intrapersonal, linguistic, and organisational skills within an international setting.
Moreover, these exchanges and study trips integrate multidisciplinary projects, such as the Academic Project – designed to connect classroom-based learning with practical real-world applications. This programme plays a vital role in developing globally minded students equipped to face the challenges of a diverse and dynamic society.

The tutor’s role, encompassing academic advising and oversight of each student’s educational progress, is carried out in close collaboration with families and the teaching team. Recognising the complexities of adolescence, character development becomes increasingly important during this stage. The tutor is central to each student’s educational journey, playing a vital role in their holistic development.

The Community Service programme provides students with valuable opportunities to develop key skills and values through practical experience. These include teamwork, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, tolerance, inclusion, diversity, and personal growth.
The Community Service programme aims to foster solidarity and community engagement, promote experiential learning, reinforce core values and respect for human rights, and develop a deeper understanding of social realities.

PE4Life is a programme inspired by the European research project M.I.L.E.S. (Movement enhances the learning experience in schools).
Secondary 3 and 4 students participate in two weekly sports sessions, held one hour before the school day begins. These sessions offer numerous benefits, including improved mood, enhanced self-esteem, and increased motivation and academic performance.
Our morning approach incorporates physical fitness, teamwork, and the development of social skills through play-based activities.
Ultimately, we strive to inspire our teenage students to embrace a positive and healthy start to their day, fostering habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.
