The School Garden Programme at the European International School of Barcelona is designed to offer students an environmental education experience that goes beyond the traditional classroom. This project aims to teach them the process of growing food and the importance of environmental stewardship, allowing them to connect with nature in a direct and meaningful way.

In the garden, students not only learn about planting, but also develop a greater awareness of sustainability and responsible nutrition. This natural space, situated in the heart of our school, is not only an educational tool but also a vibrant meeting point for the entire educational community, where everyone can enjoy and learn the values of nature.

Through this programme, we seek to provide a comprehensive education that fosters our students’ academic and personal development. The garden offers many opportunities for hands-on learning, teaching children skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and environmental care. Each week, students participate in practical activities where they discover how to plant, nurture, and maintain a garden. Additionally, they learn to identify the local biodiversity—from edible plants and flowers to beneficial insects—all within a comprehensive approach to ecosystems.

The School Garden Programme integrates various areas of knowledge, such as Science, Mathematics, and Art, offering students an interdisciplinary learning experience. Thanks to our collaboration with ‘Crea Un Huerto’ (Create a Garden), students have the opportunity to develop valuable skills while strengthening their connection with nature and the environment.
