Educational Psychology Department

At EISB, we have a specialised team of psychologists and speech therapists providing comprehensive support to students, families, and teachers. Our focus is on the academic, social, and emotional development of students, with educational plans adapted to their individual abilities and needs, including specific programmes for high abilities and special educational needs.

Enrichment programmes for gifted and talented students

We believe in nurturing talent, eliminating academic ceilings, and providing all students with challenges, goals, and motivation to learn. We understand that gifted students can sometimes feel frustrated and misunderstood, and we strive to prevent that in our school.

We offer a variety of programs tailored to the individual abilities, developmental stage, age, and maturity of each child. These programs are divided into four distinct branches:

  • Regular classroom enrichment
  • Curriculum extension in a dedicated classroom
  • Accelerated learning in specific subjects
  • Full grade-level acceleration

To determine the most suitable option for each student, families, students, and the school collaborate in a comprehensive analysis. Together, we assess how to best optimise the student’s performance throughout their educational journey, tailoring their curriculum and providing ongoing academic, emotional, and social support.

PE4LIFE

PE4Life, programme based on the European research project: M.I.L.E.S – Movement Improves Learning Experience in Schools

Healthier students and improvement in academic performance

Exercise prepares the mind

Secondary Year 3 and Year 4 students participate in two weekly sports sessions, from 8h to 9h. The early morning exercises that our pupils do are based on fitness, teamwork and the development of social skills through play.

Technology and self-awareness

Performance monitoring

By wearing a heart rate monitor chest strap, students gain valuable insights into their body’s response to exercise, fostering self-awareness and responsibility for their health. This real-time data empowers them to understand their individual needs and tailor their fitness routines accordingly.

Healthy lifestyle habits

    Ecological & Edible Garden

The School Garden programme offers a hands-on learning experience that goes beyond the classroom, allowing our students to connect with nature and gain a deeper understanding of environmental concepts.

    Reconnecting with Nature

Our School Garden programme provides a unique opportunity for students to experience first-hand the fundamentals of growing food, while fostering an appreciation for the environment. This initiative also creates a vibrant green space within the school grounds for the entire community to enjoy.

    Comprehensive education

Our commitment to a well-rounded education extends to all aspects of our students’ growth. The school garden complements classroom learning while nurturing essential values like teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness.

What is the Vegetable Garden Programme about?

    Environmental laboratory

Our school garden serves as a living environmental laboratory, buzzing with dynamic and engaging activities. Here, students explore the fundamentals of planting, sustainable food production, and care for the environment.

    Hands-on activities

Through weekly hands-on activities, students delve into the world of plants, learning essential skills like planting, caring, and harvesting. They also discover the significance of biodiversity and sustainable farming practices. Equipped with magnifying glasses and shovels, they identify edible plants, flowers, beneficial insects, and other wildlife, all while developing a comprehensive understanding of interconnected ecosystems.

    Interdisciplinary learning

The programme seamlessly integrates multiple disciplines, including science, mathematics, and art, offering students a practical and applied learning experience.

Our collaboration with “Crea Un Huerto” allows students to engage in practical, meaningful learning experiences that foster skill development and a profound connection to the natural world.

    • Green School

We are proud to be an Eco School recognised with the “Green Flag” accreditation for our commitment to sustainability. At EISB, we are dedicated to using renewable energy sources to reduce electricity and gas consumption.

Our goal is to become energy self-sufficient and continue to fly our school’s “Green Flag”. To maximise solar energy use, we have installed 496 solar panels on the school roof and the sports hall.

    Innovative Climate Control

At our school, we have implemented cutting-edge technology for the climate control of our spaces: aerothermal energy. This system, which uses an air-to-water heat pump, is highly efficient and considered a clean energy source, as it uses the heat or cold from the air to transfer it to the water.

    Energy Efficiency

Our system has a coefficient of performance (COP) of 2.5, which classifies it as renewable energy. This is in line with our commitment as an Eco School, helping us significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

Additionally, we have improved air renewal in the classrooms by installing new heat recovery systems, controlled by CO2 sensors, to ensure a healthier and more efficient environment.

    Integration with Existing Systems

Aerothermal energy complements perfectly with our photovoltaic panels and underfloor heating system, which has been expanded and modernised to optimise its performance.

We educate for a sustainable future

      Think Green

      • We implement pedagogical techniques that promote good environmental practices.
      • Our students visit wastewater treatment plants, recycling facilities, and natural parks annually, etc.
      • Our facilities run on solar thermal energy.

      Reduce

      • We reduce the amount of waste and optimise its proper separation.
      • We reduce electricity consumption.
      • We have timers on taps to reduce water consumption.

      Recycle

      • We collaborate with “ECO-SCHOOLS FEE”, an international organisation comprising over 33,000 schools worldwide, to develop environmental education programmes and improve environmental practices, as well as to connect these schools with one another.
      • We recycle second-hand uniforms, and the funds raised go to various charitable causes organised by “UNICEF”.
      • We promote recycling of paper and packaging, with recycling bins in all classrooms.

      Reuse

      • We participate in the solidarity collection of bottle caps in collaboration with the “Seur Foundation” to raise funds for helping sick children.
      • We reuse pool water for sanitary purposes and to irrigate the football field.

      Our commitment:
      Ecomanifiesto 8th April 2019

Our educational community is committed to the education of new generations. We believe it is our duty to adopt patterns and behaviours that help raise awareness of the sustainability of our planet among our students and their families.

With this in mind, our ecodelegates, produced the following manifesto. Its main aim is to serve as a guide and provide you with all the habits and behaviours that will help support and take care of our ecosystem, our planet.

New generations must face a challenge of great magnitude. They need to make the world a fairer, cleaner and more fraternal place. To achieve this, we need to educate them based on these three pillars: justice, fraternity and sustainability.

      1

Properly use the bins: yellow for containers and plastics, white for paper and cardboard (without staples or paper clips), and grey for everything else. Likewise, in the playgrounds, we will use the bins with yellow bags solely for containers, aluminium foil, and plastics.

      2
The students in Primary and Infant School commit to bringing a water cup in order to remove disposable plastic cups. These hard-plastic cups will be taken home every day to be washed and they will not be made out of either glass or ceramic.
      3
Using drinking water only when strictly necessary. We will not leave the tap running and we will let teachers know if we see a leak or something broken. We will not waste this resource.
      4
Turning off the lights, fans, and other devices that require energy when we don’t need them. For example, we will turn them off when we go to the playground or when we finish school and go home.
      5
Spreading the word about environmental problems and using articles, photographs and/or videos as a means to raise awareness amongst our community. We will not shy away from our responsibilities.
      6
Collecting bottle caps for charity. The students will be able to bring caps from home and dispose of them in the special containers in the school. These caps will be used to fund solidary projects.
